Peter Hübner – The Significance of our Consciousness to Medicine

Medizin Aktuell: And I assume that for Medical Resonance Therapy Music®, where there are already approximately 100 different scientific studies on its medical effects in hand, many more are yet to come.

Peter Hübner: And in this respect, I am especially interested in the scientific research on the states of consciousness themselves behind the studies on the medical effects, as consciousness as such could not be proven with material scientific methods for a long time.

Medizin Aktuell: A great task – because, according to what you say, the causes for medical effects are here in the field of consciousness.

How do you think you will get to objective scientific argumentation – i.e. to measurable results if you cannot measure consciousness as such?

Peter Hübner: In objective science, i.e. in natural science there are a number of things you cannot measure directly, but can nevertheless prove – even if in a roundabout way.

Medizin Aktuell: And what is this?

Peter Hübner: For instance in physics “gravitation” – to only give one example.
Gravitation as such has so far not been measurable – but its effect has. That led to the fact that gravitation was explained in a totally different way before Albert Einstein and with Albert Einstein.

But there was never any doubt among the great scientists about the actual existence of gravitation – only as a phenomenon of mass attraction, and after Albert Einstein newly defined the mass, this of course, had repercussions on the scientific explanations of gravitation.

It is the same for our consciousness. Our consciousness has its effects in the neuro-physiological field – and here is the place of objective argumentation.

Medizin Aktuell: But the neuro-physiologists today speak about neuro-physiological effects on our thinking and/or consciousness rather than the other way round.

Peter Hübner: That is right – but as I have already said, this conclusion and/or this view stems from the fact alone that these scientists themselves, as well as the people examined by them in general, or better: practically exclusively, have only the first three main states of consciousness at their disposal.
